A concrete library in the middle of the beach

This new library at the coast of the East China Sea, in the region of Nandaihe, has been built from concrete in the middle of the beach and it looks just amazing. Its location is obviously not very common for a library building as not many other libraries in the world enjoy such wonderful views over the ocean. For this reason, this Seashore Library, designed by the Beijing based studio Vector Architects, is a unique piece of architecture with remarkable features.

Curvy lines at the ceilings mix perfectly with the straight rectangular open areas which overlook the sea. They create a sober and elegant space where you can just relax and read surrounded by an spectacular scenery. This is an exceptional place that invites everyone to enjoy the presence of some of the most basic elements: water, air, light… The atmosphere in here is made to help you unwind after a busy day. A deserted beach is definitely the right place to do that. Here you are more likely to find the peace and tranquility you are looking for.

This is also a multifunctional building. In addition to the beautiful reading room that occupies the central part of the building, you can find a meditation space , activity room and a bar in the auxiliary areas located at the edges. The concrete walls show the print of their timber formwork influenced by the rippled waves created by the elements on the sand. This makes the concrete look warmer and perfectly integrated with its surroundings.

Of course, a project like this is designed to provide its users vivid experiences and feelings. The impressive location plays an important role in achieving this goal together with its outstanding features. Certainly, the architects have left a mark of memory in time with this work in this beautiful region of China.
